SILVER JUBILEE DON BOSCO EMBU

Close Collaboration
Don Bosco collaborates very closely with the Mother Mazzarello Youth Centre run by the Salesian Sisters. Often we have formative and religious moments in common to mark certain events within the Salesian Family. Of late there is a joint initiative to animate a group of lay Salesians known as Salesian Cooperators. Plans are also underway to have a joint animation of a festive oratory.

The growth of the past pupils movement, the Salesian Youth Movement and the Salesian Educative Pastoral Community (SEPC) are areas that need recognition and be nurtured to growth to full strength.
Each year, the Salesian Past Pupils organize a football tournament in order to bring young people together in a constructive way. Together with the tournament, the group also seizes the opportunity to offer interactive instruction in Life Skill for those who come to the tournament.

Our parents have also proved to be very supportive in the affairs of the school. Through the SEPC parents committee the school has witnessed the generosity of the parents. Of their own volition they have come up with what is now known us the Friends of Don Bosco Day. This is day in October on which parents invite their friends and request them to give a hand in the education of students from less fortunate families. This event is usually preceded with the preparation of the raffle tickets that are sold at a fee in order to raise starting money for the exercise. On the material day people contribute in cash and kind and everything concluded with the drawing of the lot. The winner usually is rewarded with a prize. However, the spirit is not just to win the prize but rather to raise funds for the support of the less fortunate. We thank our parents for this laudable initiative and continue to encourage you to go ahead. We also invite more well wishers to support the parents with this initiative.

Another initiative of bringing together the Catholic schools within the neighborhood is taking root. Don Bosco Girls, Itabua, Kangaru Girls, Kangaru Boys and Don Bosco Technical Secondary School have come together to form what is now known as Saint Peter Alliance.

Every year we also organize a sporting event close to the feast of Don Bosco. This brings together as many as 40 secondary schools within the larger Embu district. Some schools come from Meru while others come from Kerugoya, Mwea and other parts of Central Province.

Vocation Contribution to the Church
In response to the spirit of the Founder, St John Bosco, we also believe that the school exists for the growth of the Church. We regard our school as a seedbed of vocation to priestly and religious life. We also promote vocations to good family house. Already this school can stand erect and boast about a significant of the past pupils who are now having their families.

Academic Performance
The school has been doing academically very well in the district, province and National levels. The high standards of discipline, Christian education and spiritual formation make it a school highly sought for.

The friendly environment, the Salesian family spirit, the Pedagogy of Don Bosco and the fraternal life of the community inspires many young people to ponder and reflect on a religious vocation.

Dedicated Staff
I would also like to take this opportunity to state that the great progress that has taken place in this institution was also due to the hard work of our staff members. We have had an excellent team of dedicated staff in all our departments. Unlike many other institutions around us, our staff members exhibit a sense of loyalty to the institution and its management. The level of interaction and trust is incomparable with many other places. Their dedication to duty and high level of expertise has made this institution very reputable and people travel great distances to bring their sons here for studies in the secondary as well as in the polytechnic. Others equally come to place orders of a higher quality in our workshops. It is obvious that our workshops command a leading respect in the whole of the Eastern and central provinces in terms of quality and finish. Come and place an order with us and you will never regret! Kudos to our esteemed staff!

Hardships and challenges
The school has had its share of problems in the past due to some misunderstandings that exist in every human organization. There were a few moments of unrest which led to temporary closure of the boarding facilities for a while. After a gap of a year and a half, the boarding facilities were again resumed from the year 2004, thanks to the wise decision of the Salesian management.

I think as we celebrate this silver jubilee we need to look back and see how God has been so good and generous to us. We need to raise our mind and hearts to him in gratitude and continue to pray for his assistance.

May God bless the vision of our pioneers and give us courage to carry on the legacy left us by Don Bosco in the service of the young people of this Embu region.
