A LONG AWAITED EVENT
“Finally the long awaited day is here!” said the gorgeous Loreto High School students as they streamed to the school hall.
The student’s retreat, is usually organized by the school administration in conjunction with the DBYES. It is a life changing experience whereby one gets to know God better and also know their inner self more than before, thanks to the Salesians of Don Bosco.
Personally I came out a better student than I had entered. Feeling strong, re-energized and determined to pursue my goal. One thing that touched me most was the quote that he gave us saying,” Life is a school of which we are here to learn, problems are part of the curriculum, they appear and fade away like algebra class, but lessons last a life time.” Having myself in a difficult relationship with my parents, I just felt something deep down my heart as father talked to us about relationships and how to deal with them. I instantly felt happy, free as if a heavy burden had been lifted from my back.
The second day of the retreat was actually the most enjoyable as we watched the final part of St. Josephine Bakhita`s movie. Tears welled up our eyes as we saw human brutality and inhumanity, upon those who have no voice in the society. I felt inspired to fight for the rights of the needy and the oppressed especially in the current society we live in, full of hunger and thirst for justice; characterized by bloodshed and insecurity. We are desperately in need of Bakhita`s today than ever, people who are always ready to endure all they go through with humility and perseverance knowing that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. I think that the change should start from us. We are the change as we are the one to perpetrate it.
Thank you so much Father Sebastian, for this final retreat I had in Loreto High School, because it has prepared me for all that I’ll meet at the end of the year after my KCSE and most of all, you have played a major role too in developing women-to-be who are agents of positive change in our society.
As a parting shot, I can say that “Yesterday is like a cancelled cheque, tomorrow a promissory note, while today is like ready cash, use it wisely for today is the most precious possession you can ever have.”
Thank you
