Mission
Empowering young people of Tanzania, through Christian Life Skills appropriate for the 21st Century,
by a network of Don Bosco institutions, Diocesan youth desks,
and other youth oriented agents.
Objectives
- Supporting Don Bosco Institutions in Tanzania, for training, planning, and understanding of Youth Ministry
- Being a sign among the agents of Youth work (NGO’s) / Youth ministry (Dioceses) in Tanzania, to inspire them with the Spirit and Style of Don Bosco.
- Offering quality up-to-date training programmes for youth, teachers, religious, priest and other agents of Youth ministry and Education in the country and especially in the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
Areas of Intervention by DBYES
Training
- The DBYES offers tailor-made inter-disciplinary training programmes for youth, teachers, priests, religious and other agents of youth ministry.
- On the one hand the training programmes are oriented towards capacity building among youth ministers (Trainers) towards more effective training of youth people.
- On the training programmes are directly oriented towards youth themselves aimed at building life-skills among them appropriate for the changing African societies of the 21st Century.
Outreach Team
- The training programmes are facilitated where people are.
- To achieve this purpose a Outreach Team of facilitators is formed at the centre, who are sent out to offer training programmes.
- DBYES strives to set up other outreach teams wherever possible so that the principles and methods of the centre have a ripple effect.
Networking
- DBYES is in fact a network of all the Don Bosco Institutions in Tanzania. DBYES facilitates their synergizing process.
- The DBYES develops a network with Diocesan youth desks, Religious congregations and other organisations, institutions and movements – both ecclesial and civil – having a similar focus on youth.
- In an effort to co-ordinate the interventions of Don Bosco Institutions in the country, DBYES has come specific desks of service. Eventually others will be set up.
a. HIV/AIDS Desk
The desk coordinates all the efforts of Don Bosco Institutions of Tanzania towards HIV/AIDS. The project basically consists of offering training.
b. Career Guidance Desk
This desk links up all the Don Bosco Institutions with the job-market. Keeps in touch with the past pupils, and assists them find work.
Production of Pastoral and Catechetical material
- The DBYES will come out with resources related to youth ministry – education and catechesis.
- These productions include audio-visual aids, CD-ROMS, multimedia productions, publication of books, manuals, textbooks, pamphlets, etc.
Resources and Documentation Service
- To facilitate research, the DBYES collects and catalogues various sources of information on youth issues.
- The sources includes monographs, training manuals, journals and magazines, back-issues of journals and magazines, newspaper cuttings, directories and almanacs, videos, CD-ROMS, audio-recordings, reports of youth days and celebrations, information on youth groups, unpublished researches and surveys, governmental policies and documents, statistics, website lists and links, etc.
- The primary beneficiaries of the Documentation Service would be the trainers of DBYES, but the facility will also be open to anyone interested in research on youth issues.
Research
- DBYES will also take up independent researches and surveys on youth related issues in Tanzania such a way as to contribute to governmental and non-governmental policy making and services on behalf of youth.
Consultancy facilities
- The DBYES will offer consultancy facilities on youth related issues to governmental and non-governmental agencies, institutions, and to groups.
- These facilities will include conducting youth surveys, assessment of youth services and Participative Strategic Planning (PSP), human resources management and training.
