Training programmes
1. Train the Trainer for Youth Ministry (Mfunze Mkufunzi)
Target group: Youth leaders, catechists, seminarians, priests, religious, teachers, any one interested in youth ministry. Not for youth themselves, but for animators of the youth.
Duration: 3 to 5 day programmes – Full residential programmes are preferable. But day programmes are also okay.
Topics:
- Topics covered in Participatory Sessions: Youth Situation; Youth ministry in general; Helping youth towards self awareness; Youth & Relationships; Group Dynamics and Leadership; Youth & HIV-AIDS; Youth & Mass-Media, etc.
- Practical Skills imparted by Play-Way Method: Skill in Starting and sustaining youth groups; Organizing skills in youth activities; Skills in art; Skills in conducting animation sessions; Communication Skills; Counseling Skills; Organizing liturgies, etc.
- Other features: Well animated liturgies; Prayer Moments & Methods; Fun & Leisure activities; Healthy Group atmosphere
2. Media Awareness Training
Target Group: Anyone who is a consumer of the modern media.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- Topics covered in Participatory Sessions: Meaning of communication, media theories, nature of advertisements, pornography, film production and criticism, A look at print media, Alternative media; Youth & Mass-Media, etc.
- Practical Skills imparted by Play-Way Method: Skill in Assertive communication, listening skills, film criticism skills, Song criticism, Evaluation of print media, etc
- Other features: Well animated prayer Moments; Fun & Leisure activities; Healthy Group atmosphere
3. Training for Effectivity
Target Group: Anyone who wants to be effective in work, including youth. Homogeneous groups are appreciated. Particularly useful to young religious in formation
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- The programme is based on the book by Steven Covey, Seven Habits of Effective People. Heavily adapted to African audience with additional exercises on skills in building habits of effectivity.
- Topics covered in Participatory Sessions: Meaning of Effectivity and Habit. Being Proactive, Goal setting & personal mission statement, Personal Planning in Time management, Interpersonal skills, Effective Group management, Communication skills, Skills in managing stress, etc.
- Additional features: Reflection on, was Jesus an effective person?
4. Teach the Teacher (In-service Training)
Target Group: Anyone involved in teaching. Particularly useful for schools that want to offer in-service training programmes for their teachers.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- Topics covered in Participatory Sessions: Understanding the Youth, A student profile, Meaning of Integral education, New learning theories, Liberative teaching methods, Dealing with difficult students, Concept of educational guidance and counselling. Study Skills
- Additional features: Reflection on Jesus as a teacher? Film shows if place & time allow: Lean on Me or To Sir With Love
5. Training in New Learning Theories
Target Group: Anyone involved in teaching. Particularly useful for schools that want to offer in-service training programmes for their teachers. Useful also for senior students.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- What is learning? Classical theories of learning; Cognitive apprenticeship; Community of learning; Multiple Intelligences; Learning Styles – VAKPOINT; Brain Based learning
- Additional features: Test you learning style; Test your intelligence
6. Training in Study Skills
Target Group: Any student at any level. Useful also for teachers.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- Topics covered in Participatory Sessions: Habits of an effective student; Time management and Planning; Learning styles; Discovering your learning style; SQ3R method of study; Cornell’s Note taking; Speed reading; dealing with memory; mind-mapping; Using library; Use of internet for research, etc.
- All topics will consist of understanding the concept and then harnessing it through skills building.
7. Training for life (Chuo cha Maisha)
Target Group: Form IV or Form VI leavers (Not more than 25 participants at a time)
Duration: 10 weeks; 50 working days; from 8 am to 5 pm.

- Meditation and Prayer Techniques
- English Language Skills
- Family Life education
- Employability & Entrepreneurship Skills : Career choices; CV making; facing interviews; SWOT analysis; every week a visit to a project
- Life Skills : Critical thinking, Creativity; Decision making; Problem solving; Stress management; Preventing addictions; Communication Skills; interpersonal skills; intrapersonal skills, etc.
- Team building and self discovery exercises
8. Holistic Approach to Self Discovery
Target Group: Anyone who wants to be discover themselves, including youth. Homogeneous groups are appreciated. Particularly useful to young religious in formation, or junior sisters.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- The programme embraces a comprehensive approach to self awareness and acceptance – psychological and spiritual. It brings together cognitive psychology and Jungian understanding of the self and individuation. It goes beyond Enneagram and Myers-Briggs approaches. The sessions are a series of personal and interactive exercises on self awareness, acceptance and alchemy.
- Additional features: Special meditation techniques; skills in personal dream analysis, journal writing, etc.
9. Participative Strategic Planning for Education and Youth Ministry
Target Groups: This programme can be towards training of people in the use of Participative Strategic Planning (PSP) or in facilitation of a planning process for a project.
We specialize on PSP for projects targeted towards the youth, including educational institutions. Particularly suited towards those in managerial posts, but planning sessions are recommended for representatives of stakeholders.
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (15 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- Writing Institutional Mission statement, Analysis of External Environment, Internal Institutional Scan, SWOT analysis, Strategic lines, Operational planning, etc. How to launch a PSP in an institution?
- Additional features for Religious groups: Jesus, CEO.
10. Youth Leadership Training
Target Group: Youth Leaders in Schools, Parishes & Dioceses
Duration: 2 to 3 day programmes (20 to 30 hours) – Residential or Day.
Topics:
- Understanding Group Dynamics, Styles of Leadership, Communication skills, Planning skills, Managing meetings, Renewal of groups, Writing of mission statement, etc.
11. Youth Retreats & Trainings
- We are also available to conduct youth retreats and trainings at diocesan and parish levels, in schools and youth groups.
- Our favourite topic is Youth Spirituality, conducted through attractive means.
- We also take up training outreach teams and core groups at the parish or diocesan level. The Outreach teams can be training in imparting Christian Life Skills (Which believe will help in HIV prevention.)
In General:
All programmes are organized by you at your place of choice. You are responsible to workout logistics. We do team facilitation.
- Our trainings use the latest methods – largely participatory and team teaching methods.
- The topics are tailor-made according to the need of the participants within the set objectives proposed by the organizers.
- The programmes are aimed at building knowledge, skills and motivation among the participants.
- Language – Swahili or English. Prior notice is to be given to facilitators.
- At the end of the programme we conduct an evaluation. A summary is made available, if requested, to the organizers.
- We request a minimum payment for the costs of resource material, and travel allowances for facilitators. But all costs are negotiable. Your additional donations will be invested on improving our programmes.
- Minimum participants required 25 (if less than 25, payment should be made for 25) and maximum 50. Forty is the ideal number!
- The organizers are responsible to work out all the logistics of the programme. If the organizers have sponsorships for the training programmes, they are requested to inform us. In any case the participants should always be requested to contribute at least a nominal amount.
Logistics:
- A hall where the participants can be seated in a circle is appreciated.
- A blackboard or a white board is necessary.
- Sufficient space in the hall to hang posters and flipcharts
- 4. In urban areas PowerPoint programmes may be used; white wall or screen is needed and power extension is needed. Facilitators come with their equipments.
- Writing material for the participants should be worked out during the time of scheduling, between organizers and facilitators (we).
- Arrange for full board & lodging for 2 or 3 facilitators if outside Dar es Salaam.
Information needed to confirm the programme:
- Who are the organizers: Name of the Inviting Organization and its Mission
- Who are the Participants: Educational standard; expected number; Language;
- Terms of Reference: Expected results after the training from the point of view of organizers. Or objectives of training.
- Arrangement of Logistics.
- Exact time of starting and ending the training; Tentative daily schedule
- Contact person; Telephone and email contacts.
