17/3/2009 - Kenya – “Jesus Cup” 2009
Last Saturday 14 March at the Salesian house of “Bosco Boys” in Nairobi, Kenya, the re were the finals of the traditional tournament of the “Jesus Cup”. Some benefactors of this house dedicated to caring for needy children and youth also attended.

The day began with Mass at which Bishop David Kamau Ng’ang’a, Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi presided. This was followed throughout the morning by some cultural activities.

Then in the afternoon there were various games in the different categories: boys’ football (under 14 and over 17), girls’ football and volleyball.

Presenting the prizes were representatives of the organisations and the businesses which sponsored the tournament. For them and for their representatives Fr Sebastian Chirayath, Rector of “Bosco Boys” had words of thanks for the generosity they show towards the work and the youngsters

“Bosco Boys” in Nairobi sets out to provide youngsters saved from the streets with a house, a home where there are people to see to their material and spiritual needs. Here they acquire what they need to face life and to make their own contribution to building society.

MISSIONARY ANIMATION

24/01/2009 HELPING TO RESET THE BONES OF SOCIETY: The New Year opened in a climate of war and conflict. In Tanzania the Student community is waking up to the drum beat of the educational institutions with ever-increasing Tuition fees. Unemployment is taking its toll on the bread winners of the Poorest. Albinos are on the run afraid of being the victims of greedy and wealth-seeking crooneys who presumably believe in the Waganga’s demands of their body parts. High level corruption that is taking its tolls on restricting opportunity to a few, unemployment and delinquency among youth, increasing numbers of single mothers and young children collecting empty plastic bottles for a survival all add to the horrendous criminality that is pervasive in our quarters. What is my missionary identity in this new scenario? How lovely are my feet which bring the good news, “God is love’ and ‘our God reigns’? more>>
The Salesians Secondary School Teachers, Tanzania

Don Bosco Procure house at Oysterbay experienced a 3 day of intense activity with the presence of our Teachers from our Secondary Schools in Tanzania. It was a big healthy mixture of Religious and Lay people focused on our common mission of empowering the young through our Educational Institutions. The focal point of our Seminar was to deepen our awareness on the richness of Don Bosco’s Educative Method, Preventive System and Youth Rights, critically analyzing the Education system in Tanzania and Teacher as Leader and Evangelizer. Realizing our close relation to the vast movement of persons, i.e. The Salesian family for the Salvation of the Young, we as teachers in the Salesians secondary schools acknowledge our strong points and the Challenges ahead. The following are the focal points of our seminar as lights and challenges in the Salesian schools: more>>
